Meritage Homes’ new community Kerina at Parkside in Dr Phillips will be just another example of their commitment to energy efficiency. As Bill Lurz, founder of AvidBuilder said, “Meritage homes has built new green homes which are the housing equivalent of the Toyota Prius.” Using new, cutting edge technology, Kerina at Parkside is expected to be 80% more efficient than other new homes! Using the HERS (Home Energy Rating System) scale to compare, homes built 10 years ago had a score of 120. To meet energy star ratings, homes must now receive a score below 85. In contrast, Meritage Green Homes range in the 20s and 30s! The most exciting new technology Kerina at Parkside is expected to utilize is Echo Solar Technology. I will talk more specifically about Echo’s solar technology later, but they offer full energy tracking software directly from your computer, tablet, pc, or ipad. This application allows you to monitor exactly what is using energy, how much, and you can control your settings. For example: all your thermostats have wireless capability allowing you to turn your air conditioning down, or heat up, remotely from your computer!
